Default Elementalist/Monk build

Hey everyone! Well, I've finally picked up this game. So far I like it a lot. I'm only level 6 and in pre-searing though. So I haven't seen much. But I'm not wanting to rush or anything. I like to take my time, and its nice to know I don't have to pay monthly.
Anyways, I've made a ele/monk. I really like to heal, and cast buffing spells. I also really like to be able to root things, and my friends like things to be able to root (or I guess freeze).
So I was wondering does anyone have a build suggestion? I'm wanting to experiement a lot, but I figured I would ask (for later, because I barely have any spells).
Also one more question! I've heard both things, that it was possible and that it wasnt possible to change secondary classes. Which one is it?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Tyria.

There are many Hydromancer builds listed in this forum (Water Elementalists).

Check them out (however, I should warn you that some spells, may not be accessible to you because they may be from a different campaign, such as Nightfall or Factions).

As for your 2nd question, yes, you can change your 2ndary after you have picked one, but only in the Crystal Desert. At that point, once you have completed each city mission, including the Dragon's Lair, you will be able to go back to the Desert area (get a quest at Droknar's Forge to get extra XP for this) and complete the Ranger Path, Mesmer Path, Necromancer Path, and Warrior Path. Once you have completed any of these quests, you can change your 2ndary to that profession (ie: complete Ranger path, will allow you to change your 2ndary to Ranger).

Good luck and have fun.

To clarify on changing your secondary profession: yes you can but it will be a long time before you will be able to choose a new one. You would have played through around 3/4 of the game before being able to choose a new secondary, so don't expect to be able to change it right off the bat after selecting your secondary in presear
